PRODUCTION

Black Magic has Panasonic AJ-D900 (FIT) Panasonic AJ-D910 (IT) broadcast digital Pro 50 cameras. (SP Betacam is also available if required). This digital format is capable of both 25 and 50Mbps recording equivalent to digital Betacam. Small miniDV and DV Cam cameras including a Sony PDX-10 (16:9) complement the main broadcast cameras. The benefit for documentary use and news gathering is the size and length of tape stock.

Black Magic utilises freelance cameraman Lee Henderson, Nathan Tomlinson and Mike Smith who have worked with Black Magic on many corporate and feature assignments. Their versatility fits well with Black Magic. In addition Nathan owns an identical camera kit making for consistent matching of multiple cameras in both 4:3 and 16:9 projects.

Black Magic also owns 3 x portable CamLink II RF microwave ENG systems. A class license enables broadcast pictures to be transmitted without cables, ideally suited for corporate conferences, but equally useful for live and pre recorded broadcast situations where small easy to use links are required.

Black Magic has developed and built several proprietary on-board mini camera systems for bikes, boats and cars and are regularly used on our own projects. Recording formats include miniDV and digital8.

POST PRODUCTION

Black Magic has two permanent and one portable non-linear edit systems all using Final Cut Pro for our own post-production needs.

Apple G5 and G4 dual processors run Final Cut Pro HD and make short work of non-linear media delivery platforms such as website video, CD and DVD authoring. Both allow 16:9 editing. In addition our third portable edit suite also runs Final Cut Pro HD on a 17" laptop computer enabling high quality non-linear editing in the field.

Mastering can either be to digital Pro 50, miniDV, DVCAM, or analogue SP Beta.

We also have AJ-LT75 and AJ-LT 95 laptop editors, the former capable of direct editing from home and professional mini DV format to broadcast DVC Pro 25, while the latter is either DVC Pro 25 or 50, has wide screen monitors for 16:9 editing and 4 x track audio capability. These broadcast portable units are ideal for conferences, news reports, and quick turnaround video presentations. They complement the Panasonic cameras and mini camera systems employed by Black Magic.
